CABFishMan contributes to enhancing the value of small-scale fisheries by providing tools and resources for the design and assessment of community–led local development strategies, which serve as a means for promoting social well-being, SSF cultural and natural heritage, and health tourism in coastal destinations.

This contribution requires strengthening the role of coastal communities in local development, the governance of SSF alongside other maritime activities,  and promoting the development of marine tourism, particularly those based on UNESCO experiences. CABFishMan carried out a non-market valuation of the socioeconomic impact of SSF and its cultural and natural heritage in the European Atlantic area in terms of touristic and economic development.

The results of this analysis involve:

• Survey design for non-market valuation of cultural and natural heritage of SSF in the European Atlantic area.
• Methodological design for non-market valuation of cultural and natural heritage of SSF in the European Atlantic area.
• Valuation of cultural and natural heritage of SSF in the European Atlantic area.

The valuation of cultural and natural heritage of SSF in the European Atlantic area has been converted into an interactive tool, designed for use by policy makers and other stakeholders, to help them quantify and evaluate the value of cultural and natural heritage of their fisheries.

Partners involved in CABFishMan worked from 2020 to 2022 in carrying out this analysis, mainly focusing on Cultural Heritage as the part of the picture that has not been comprehensively covered in literature, but those analysed together with Intangible Cultural Heritage in the case of combined port and natural landscape related to SSF in the Atlantic area.
